![]() ![]() I also like how I can control the suction and speed independently on the freemie. I can go longer on the freemie because the flanges/cones? On the freemie don't have the sharp edge like the Medela ones. I get about the same with Medela vs freemie. But, being tethered to a chair is annoying and not helpful when little one needs attention.Īs for production. I mainly use the Medela symphony because hospital provided it. I have the freemie liberty and am just getting used to it. I personally struggle with supply so I probably pump less since I need more power from the machine. I think it varies with everyone differently since supply levels, nipple sizing etc all plays into the milk output. I used the elvie one full day when traveling and I loved that I could charge it in our car while traveling with the USB charger. Since I am pumping quite a few times a day and longer periods (20 minutes after a feeding), the battery can die quickly. I am comparing the suction to the medela symphony (which is a powerful expensive pump). The routine is mentally exhausting and can definitely take a toll. My milk supply is lower when using it but I appreciate that I can still follow my pumping schedule. But if I’m mentally over it or out and about, I use the elvie. I use my hospital grade pump at home when I can. But even with that being said, I do not regret purchasing it. I am one of those people that agree the elvie suction is not as great as my hospital grade pump. I own the Medela finesse pump but have hardly used it since I have the rental right now. I have a medela symphony as a rental from my hospital since I was having issues. I got the elvie pump for the same exact reason, my sanity. I’m in the same boat as you with supply issues and supplementing with formula. As a teacher who can’t practically get away to pump without causing everyone, myself included, a massive headache, it has been a lifesaver. I know the Elvie is expensive but it has been the best thing for me. As soon as you fix the alignment, it’s good to go again. Every now and then it can be hard to get my nipple lined up correctly, and then the suction is weak. I have an oversupply and usually stop here anyway to keep the supply from growing even more, but I have had a couple extreme days where I needed to empty and keep going. I get about 4-4.5 oz before it automatically stops. Negatives of the Elvie: if you have a large supply, you may need to empty the cup. It’s actually more efficient for me than the spectra or the Freemie. I only need 10 minutes, because the suction is great. The battery lasts about two days for me, and that’s pumping for 4 10-min sessions each day. I have even worn it in an emergency situation around my high school students and they couldn’t tell trust me, my high school boys would have made it awkward had they known. I am a teacher and have worn it to meetings and nobody could tell. It’s super quiet, which I love because I can wear it whenever I need to. The cups are still big and you’ll look VERY well-endowed, but it’s a natural shape and not that noticeable. The Elvie, on the other hand, is my favorite device ever. The shape of the cups are also the least natural things ever, and I look ridiculous wearing them. It’s quiet but not silent, so between the faint hiss (think oxygen machine sound) and the cables, I don’t think I could use it in public without anyone noticing. The cables are not discrete, unless you are more skilled than I am. I didn’t know what luxury i had in the ability to move, but I missed it as soon as I was trapped by the wall. My husband dropped and cracked one of the cups and I had to use the Spectra (other insurance pump.I got 2 free) for a few days until the replacement part came. The battery life is pretty good, and the freedom to move around is amazing. It’s easy to use and has a strong suction. ![]() I got the Freemie through insurance, and it’s the pump I started with. ![]() I have the Freemie and the Elvie, so I can speak for both.
